NOEL AND MARIE DOIRON: THE EXILES
One of the greatest single day disasters in Canadian history occurred when the Duke William sank in the North Atlantic on December 13, 1758. Over 350 Maritimers perished. Most of these doomed passengers were former residents of Hants Co. The head patriarch on the Duke William was Noel Doiron. Noel and his wife, Marie, raised their family in Hants County for forty years. The dykes that Noel built continue to hold back the highest tides in the world and still frame the shoreline of the village that now bears his name.
